Aims and scope
Journal of Animal Science and Technology (J. Anim. Sci. Technol. or JAST) is a peer-reviewed, open access journal publishing original research, review articles and notes in all fields of animal science.
Topics covered by the journal include: genetics and breeding, physiology, nutrition of monogastric animals, nutrition of ruminants, animal products (milk, meat, eggs and their by-products) and their processing, grasslands and roughages, livestock environment, animal biotechnology, animal behavior and welfare.
Articles generally report research involving beef cattle, dairy cattle, pigs, companion animals, goats, horses, and sheep. However, studies involving other farm animals, aquatic and wildlife species, and laboratory animal species that address fundamental questions related to livestock and companion animal biology will also be considered for publication.
The Journal of Animal Science and Technology (J. Anim. Technol. or JAST) has been the official journal of The Korean Society of Animal Sciences and Technology (KSAST) since 2000, formerly known as The Korean Journal of Animal Sciences (launched in 1956).

We are working closely with relevant indexing services including Web of Science (Thomson Reuters) to ensure that articles published in Journal of Animal Science and Technology will be available in their databases when appropriate.
Journal of Animal Science and Technology operates a single-blind peer review system, where the reviews are aware of the names and affiliations of the authors, but the reviewer reports provided to authors are anonymous. The benefit of single-blind peer review is that it is the traditional model of peer review that many reviewers are comfortable with, and it facilitates a dispassionate critique of a manuscript.
Submitted manuscripts will generally be reviewed by two or more experts who will be asked to evaluate whether the manuscript is scientifically sound and coherent, whether it duplicates already published work, and whether or not the manuscript is sufficiently clear for publication. The Editors will reach a decision based on these reports and, where necessary, they will consult with members of the Editorial Board. The peer review process will aim to ensure that all published manuscripts are scientifically sound and provide new scientific knowledge.
Experimental research on animals must follow internationally recognized guidelines. A statement to this effect must appear in the Methods section of the manuscript, including the name of the body which gave approval, with a reference number where appropriate. Manuscripts will be rejected if the editorial office considers that the research has not been carried out within an ethical framework, e.g. if the severity of the experimental procedure is not justified by the value of the knowledge gained.
All manuscripts submitted to Journal of Animal Science and Technology should adhere to BioMed Central's editorial policies.
Springer Nature remains neutral with regard to jurisdictional claims in published maps and institutional affiliations.
Criteria for publication
Journal of Animal Science and Technology considers the following types of articles:
• Research: reports of data from original research.
• Commentaries: short, focused and opinionated articles on any subject within the scope of the journal. These articles are usually related to a contemporary issue, such as recent research findings, and may be commissioned from opinion leaders in the field.
• Letters to the Editor: these can take three forms: a substantial re-analysis of a previously published article, or a substantial response to such a re-analysis from the authors of the original publication, or an article that may not cover 'standard research' but that may be relevant to readers.
• Reviews: comprehensive, authoritative, descriptions of any subject within the journal's scope. Reviews can cover any topical themes such as basic science and clinical reviews, ethics, pro/con debates, equipment reviews and thematic series to highlight specific topics in the field.
• Short reports: brief reports of data from original research.
For more information, please see our submission guidelines.
Appeals and complaints
If you wish to appeal a rejection or make a complaint you should, in the first instance, contact the Editor who will provide details of the journal's complaints procedure. For complaints that cannot be resolved with the Editor, the authors should contact the Publisher.
Citing articles in Journal of Animal Science and Technology
Articles in Journal of Animal Science and Technology should be cited in the same way as articles in a traditional journal. Because articles are not printed, they do not have page numbers; instead, they are given a unique article number.
Article citations follow this format:
Authors: Title. J Anim Sci Technol [year], [volume number]:[article number].
e.g. Roberts LD, Hassall DG, Winegar DA, Haselden JN, Nicholls AW, Griffin JL: Increased hepatic oxidative metabolism distinguishes the action of Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor delta from Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor gamma in the Ob/Ob mouse. J Anim Sci Technol 2009, 1:115.
refers to article 115 from Volume 1 of the journal.
